Week By Week: The Past 2 Weeks in Review

Here is a week and a half in review from the students' perspectives. When asked what big events have occurred over the past few weeks these are the responses I got.

In special areas: "The successful 4th grade class has won the music award for first place (for behavior) this month" said Amber.

In writing we spent a lot of time working on transitions and "writing expository essays on our favorite subject and how drugs are bad for you." (Amber and Hunter)

In reading class Savannah said, "We read about (a silly dog named) Ike." While Cole pointed out that we learned about cause and effect and how to make a cause effect chart. We also had a Spelling Bee. Our first place winner was Hunter. Loren came in second and then Donnie finished third.

Science and Technology: Savannah responded by saying, "In science we (used baby soda bottles) to do some really fun experiments." In our learning center we got on the computers and Mrs. Riddle taught us how to make PowerPoint presentations. We used this skill in our science class to make our own "What am I" PowerPoints for part of our final assessment for our science unit.

In other news I was reminded by Cole that we should recognize, "Joshua S. (for being) awarded terrific kid of the week." Loren was extra excited that we were all able to, "buy things at the school book fair," that ended today.

Science Exploration

Hello Fourth Graders, Families and Friends! We are excited to be gearing up into our next two week science unit. We have a few experiments and some observations to be made in the classroom and around the school grounds. We are also going to be incorporating more technology during this unit so look forward for some amazing PowerPoint presentations. In preparation for the fun learning to come I decided to take a look back at some of the experiences we have has thus far in our science class during 2009. Take a look:

2009: A Year in Review...

2009 has been a great year in 4th grade at Samsula Academy. We have had so much fun from selling cotton candy at the school's Fall Festive to classroom spelling bees. We have spent a lot of time perfecting our craft in writing, venturing outdoors to draw inspiration from our wonderful surroundings. We even had a visit right in our "backyard" from a four legged fair winning heifer.

From Holidays to science experiments, to exploring the world, we are always having fun!

*As a reminder to all of our current fourth graders we will be having our next Spelling Bee on Friday, January the 22nd.*

Looking back to 9/11/2009: Special Person Day

Here at Samsula Academy we had a very special opportunity to take the time remember September 11th. We spent the morning with our "Special Person(s)." Families were invited to share fun activities and focus on family and learning. Here is a slide show looking back at some of the visitors and activities in 4th grade on this very special day.

November 19th

Today was our Thanksgiving Feast and along with that came a lot of fun learning activities. After we ate with our families and friends some parents stuck around and the class ventured outdoors to complete a writing prompt on what winter is like here in Florida. We all had a good time in the lovely weather and were very inspired in our writing. This short clip is of Loren explaining what we are doing outside.
